    New coffee shop opening in South Tampa will employ people with disabilities

    TAMPA, Fla. — An innovative new coffee shop opening in Tampa this Feb. will train and employ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Called CUP (Coffee Uniting People), the nonprofit is the first of its inclusionary kind in the Tampa Bay area. It will be located at 3408 South Dale Mabry Highway. CUP is the brainchild of attorney Greg Jones, who is teaming up with manager Stephanie Williams to give more employment options to people who need them.

    Coffee Uniting People, the non-profit behind CUP, says an inclusive coffee shop that employs those with intellectual and developmental disabilities is “long overdue.”

    The Tampa-based non-profit Coffee Uniting People, aka CUP, recently signed a lease for its first coffee shop located at 3408 S Dale Mabry Hwy, with the hopes of opening in late fall or shortly after the new year, says founder Greg Jones.

    “We’re very excited about this opportunity to provide employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” Jones tells What Now Tampa. “It’s long overdue in the Tampa area and the state, and hopefully this will be the first of many locations that will positively affect the lives of many.” Read Full Article

The case at issue, which was pending in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Seminole County Florida, involved claims where the Plaintiff sued Tijuana Flats for an injury sustained from falling off a ladder while painting a mural.     Manny Alvarez, Esquire and Matt Holtsinger, Esquire tried a case to a verdict in Hillsborough County, Florida in the case of Jerry Ivey & Tambra Ivey v. National Environmental Technology, Inc. The trial was a jury-trial and lasted a full two (2) weeks. The case involved claims for personal injury made by Jerry Ivey and a claim for loss of spousal consortium by his wife Tambra Ivey following a motor vehicle collision between a bus (driven by Mr. Ivey) and a truck and trailer owned by NET, Inc. The accident occurred when upon the two vehicles passing each other, a gull wing door on our Client’s vehicle (which was accidentally left open) impacted the driver’s side of the bus and windshield, sending glass onto Mr. Ivey. Video inside the bus depicts Mr. Ivey slumping over afterwards, and he appeared to be knocked out; at a minimum, he was dazed. At trial, Mr. Ivey contended he suffered neurocognitive, psychological, and vestibular injuries, including an acute balance disorder, dizziness, vertigo, loss of hearing, memory loss, PTSD, and major depressive disorder. He also was seeking lost past and future wages (he was 62 at the time of the MVA), future medical damages, and pain and suffering. At trial Mr. Ivey asked for the jury to award something between 5.5 million dollars and 11 million dollars. The defense asked the jury to return a verdict between $30,000 and $67,000. The jury deliberated for approximately two hours and returned a total verdict of 36,000.

    John Guyton Receives Favorable Decision for his client: First American Title Insurance Company

Guyton, IIIJohn Guyton represented First American Title Insurance Company’s policy holder in a dispute over diminished value of commercial real estate where the title insurance company failed to identify a City of Lakeland sewer easement that bisected the property.  The title insurance company’s pre-suit offer was $3,300.00

    Following a three (3) day trial, the Court awarded damages of $400,125.00.
